 Very fast SSD that exceeded my expectations., By Christian Girard "SuSEKing" (I am a citizen of the world taking refuge in the USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: 64GB M4 Ssd 2.5" Sata (Personal Computers) I have experience with several brands of SSDs and with the SSDs operating in standalone and RAID configurations. With my motherboard system ram filled to its rated capacity, I was using part of my system ram for the temp directory (tempfs). The temp directory allocation in RAM was limiting the size of my CFD analysis since I intentionally had no swap drive. I decided to sacrifice some of the lifetime of a SSD and use it for both my temp directory and as a swap partition. I ordered the Crucial M4 SSD with the data transfer kit because at the time it was less expensive than the M4 SSD alone. Thus, I am not commenting on the data transfer kit because I have no intentions of ever using it. Installation of a SSD is straightforward and the 6BG/s SATA port of my motherboard immediately recognized the M4 SSD upon boot. I created the swap and /tmp partitions and life was good. I cloned the OS (Win 7) from the original drive and did some minor configuration to get it to boot. I was unable to use the software provided to clone the drive. I just followed some procedures I found on line. I reduced the partition size on my original drive to accommodate the smaller partition on the SSD and then cloned the partition onto the SSD drive when it was attached through the provided USB/SATA cable. The system is now quieter and runs Windows apps much more quickly than before. I reduced the rating from 5* because the software they provided didn't work as advertised. Nevertheless the product itself is working very well. |
