3.0 out of 5 stars May not fit your laptop without modification, November 28, 2011
This review is from: Micro SATA 1.8 Inch Drive to 2.5 Inch Laptop Drive Caddy (Electronics)
This is advertised as an adapter to a 2.5" standard laptop form factor. While its form factor may be 'standard' there are a couple of issues.

1. [Many/most] laptop hard drives, or at least the ones I own, are a slimmer form factor at around 7mm, and the bays in my laptops also reflect this. It still fits in the bay, but it is a very tight fit. Check this before buying.

2. While the enclosure comes with the appropriate set of screws for it, it seems that the external hole sizes are nonstandard. Where other drives use 3mm threads, it seems these use something smaller. It may only take a 3/32 in drill to make the normal screws fit (I need the countersunk screws as the supplied screws will not clear the edges of the frame). If you are mounting to rails inside of a desktop, this will likely not be an issue.

Other than those two particular issues, this product works well enough. The power supplied to the ssd is appropriate, and the construction... Read more

This is a pretty basic device, considering it is just a passive adapter. The build quality is pretty good, and it includes all the needed screws you'll need. Other than that, it's just a tray with an adapter, so not much else to review. A+ in my book.

Oh, and it comes with a miniature screwdriver! I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package.

Unlike another reviewer, I found that the device fit perfectly into my laptops. It is 9.5mm high, which is by far the most common height for laptop 2.5" HDDs. I would, however, recommend looking into the maximum height for drives in the device you're putting this into-- some devices (mostly netbooks, slate PCs, etc) will only accept 7.5mm height drives (note that this is uncommon). If you're unsure, simply look up the specifications of your current drive, if you have one. If all else fails, call your system manufacturer; in general, they'll be able to tell you, even if you have to prod them a bit.
